American Veterans for Equal Rights (AVER): Assault on Our Nation’s Capital

American Veterans for Equal Rights (AVER) joins the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), AMVETS, Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) and other national veterans service organizations in strongly condemning the armed assault on our nation’s Capitol January 6th.

AVER joins other U.S. military veterans in our outrage at how dangerously close violent insurrectionists came to toppling the constitutionally elected government of the United States, noting that the first, second, and third individuals in line of Presidential succession were all targets of the domestic terrorist attack.

We reject any notion that this is a partisan issue. As men and women who swore a sacred oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic” we believe that the vast majority of American citizens share our outrage at the January 6th desecration of our precious and fragile liberty.

We call for a bipartisan investigation into the attack on our national seat of government, the swift and stringent prosecution of the perpetrators, and a restored commitment to creating a society where our core values of justice and equality will be affirmed by every American as the most basic aspirations of our nation. The men and women who have shed their blood to create and preserve our Constitution deserve no less.
